Refurbishments Gasthaus zur Post

In spring of 2020, the refurbishments on the “Gasthaus zur Post” (Sattel, SZ) were set in motion. The inn - located directly on the road where stagecoaches used to regularly travel towards the Gotthard until 1881 - was built in 1878. The refurbishments carried out on the “Gasthaus zur Post” were planned and managed by MEBAG: some tasks were completed by our employees directly, while others were passed on to external parties, however still coordinated and overseen by MEBAG.

A lot had to be done before the inn could fully re-open for the 1st of July: the entire interior had to go through renovations and redesigns. The refurbishment covered every type of room function – from the kitchen to bathrooms, guest rooms, public rooms, and even attic spaces. Wooden walls and floors were sanded down, and either oiled, repainted or replaced. All sanitary facilities in the inn were completely replaced, which meant full plumbing adjustments and re-piping. All windows and doors were substituted, improving energy efficiency of the building. Finally, building wiring and lighting systems were modernised.

However, the refurbishments were not limited to the interior of the inn. The renovations carried out on the exterior of the building comprised of a complete renewal of the façade. This included installing new shutters, replacement of the cladding, renovation of the inn’s roofing, as well as the remodelling of its terrace and surrounding property. Furthermore, insulation was added, contributing to the building’s overall energy efficiency and warmth. Lastly, the outdoor neon lighting system that illuminated the façade in the past, was replaced with a more low-energy LED lighting system.

Key functions of MEBAG within this project:

  • Planning of the project

  • Completion of some of the refurbishment tasks

  • Coordination and management of external parties

  • Single Point of authoritative contact
